Saint Luke’s Church in Bologna

Bologna Saint Luke Church

Celebrate the Passamano in the San Luke Church

Saint Luke’s Church on Bologna’s Hills painted during the #ItaliaGrandSketchingTour

Just on the outskirt of Bologna, on the Guardia hill in 1677 was built the sanctuary to the Madonna of Saint Luke. A long human chain of people from every class allowed to transport materials for the construction of the large portico and the basilica in a short time.

Now, every year, this event of great collaboration is reminded by students of all the schools of Bologna and province, of every order and degree. They meet here to create the same chain and to celebrate on the top of the hill in front of the Saint Luke’s Church.

I discovered this event thanks to my friend that is a professor at school and accompanied the students and invited me to enjoy this time together.

The climb was longer then I imagined but the view of the Saint Luke’s Church in Bologna is amazing. The portico climbs the hill with a thousands stairs (or so it felt) and leads you to the top. Unfortunately I arrived too late to see the costume parade, but I assisted to the concert where the students were the protagonists.

I was very glad to be part of this celebration. I love the way it shows and teaches in a fun way to the younger generations what we can do when we stay together, each with its own uniqueness but with a common goal.

The atmosphere and the energy at the top of the hill was great and I really enjoyed being part of it with my own way of celebrating: doing art and sharing my love for it with everyone around me!
