Scala dei Turchi near Agrigento

Sun and sea in my visit in Paradise

Peace and beauty at the Scala dei Turchi near Agrigento during the #italiagrandsketchingtour.

Half an hour from Agrigento there is paradise! You don’t believe me? I wouldn’t have either before seeing the pure beauty of this place. A cliff of white stone that drops into the water. Sea and sun dance with each other and shine and create this atmosphere that I believe is paradise.

Scala dei Turchi means Stair of the Turks, and the name comes from the fact that the Turks arriving to Sicily managed to conquer the area by climbing the mountain through this natural stair like cliff and arriving unexpected to the city. Now this is a touristic place for beach goers. But being December there was almost no one and it was just perfect. I say almost because actually there was a group of photographers and models doing a photo shooting. Such a interesting world to watch.

On my side I sat on a niche in the stairs and meditate. The best time of the day. Looking at the sea brings me so much joy and peace. I realize that I really wouldn’t need much in life to be happy and sometimes running after things is just a way not to be with myself and get to know myself deeply. Nature instead allows me to focus inside and reach a deep peace and fulfillment.

After the climb I sat on the beach to draw and paint. I felt very challenged because I felt the need to express the pure beauty that I was feeling and I don’t know if I managed to reach my goal. But for me this painting is rich of meaning and of memories of that beautiful day.
