Selinunte mysteries unveiled
The Greek temples of Selinunte during the #italiagrandsketchingtour
Selinunte is a mysterious and magical place. The city was for centuries the richest colony of the Greeks in Sicily. The center of commerce, a place of peace and a melting pot of cultures that met in those streets that are still visible in the biggest archeological park in Europe. This place left me breathless. Can you imagine that the studies say that there were up to 17 temples in the area?
It was a beautiful sunny winter day and no one was around and I could relax and enjoy the beauty. It was like a picnic in history. Unfortunately there are not many information available in the park, so I couldn’t learn as much as I wanted but still I could get the feeling of the majestic era that this area lived in.
Half of the way through, I sat down on a corner, to sketch the ruins of the main temple that lies on the top of the hill, facing the streets and the shops that were filling the city center. Sitting in the sun in the middle of the park was pure bliss, and I think it was visible, in fact this was the most liked post of all my tour in the ink version.
